Luwak (Civet) Loo´s habit
WARNING: The story and images you are about to see might harm your opinion about Kopi Luwak. But it has been proven through food research that Kopi Luwak is no doubt safe and free from harmful organism, from the natural process and roasting. For more information, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopi_Luwak, under “Research” and “Safety”.
As Kopi Luwak´s lover and nosey people, during our field trip to Central Aceh, we asked one of our Mill about his secrets on how he managed to find Kopi Luwak. He has been delivering his gold stacks of Kopi Luwak to us, knows exactly where to find them even though they are wild. And how?
He agrees that Luwak is not easy to spot during daylight, as they are nocturnal animals, but they have Loo´s habit. Luwak would defecate to mark its territory and since it has strong sense of smelling, it always traced back its territory. Every time farmers collect the “holy” piles, they do not clean the surface throughly to leave the scent for the Luwak to trace back its Loo.
Now that we got the insider tips, and still being nosey, we have to see it with our own eyes!
Mount Sinabung erupted (29th August, 2010)
On 29th August 2010, North Sumatra was surprised by Mount Sinabung explosion.. Mount Sinabung with altitude of 2,460 m above sea level has been showing its activity since Saturday morning (28/8/2010), issuing black smoke. The eruption has caused more than 10,000 people that stays at the foothill of the mountain to flee their homes to nearby cities, Berastagi and Kabanjahe. It indicated that one person had died as the result of the eruption.
Mount Sinabung is located in the north west of the island of Sumatra in Indonesia, around 40 miles south west of the city of Medan. It is the highest peak in North Sumatra. It is the first time since 1600 that the volcano has erupted. The eruption itself began shortly after midnight, initially sending an ash plume around 5,000 feet into the air and generating lava flows (Reuters). The lava streams went directly into a man-made lake called Lake Laukawar, located at the mountain´s foothill, preventing damages to the surroundings.
Mount Sinabung is located quite far from Lake Toba, where most coffee plantations are, and the eruption has not affected the coffee areas.
